in this tutorial i will show you how to make a pompom. yes, a pompom. i will show you what you can make out of them in the next post.

what you will need: yarn, cardboard

first you will have to make different sized circles out of the cardboard. 2 from each size. i used 3,3cm/1,2cm in diameter, but you can use 4,5/1,9 or 5,5/2,5 or whatever you want. dipends of what you want to use it for.

now, put the 2 circles on top of eachother.

and start reeling up the yarn on them like so. the lenght of the yarn always depends on the size of the circles, but you will need about 1 to 2 meters. also, it is easyer if you reel 2 or 4 strands of yarn at the same time. just put the ends on the right spot on the circle and anchor them with the yarn itself as you keep reeling on it. try not to reel too tight, but not too loose either.

if you don't have enough yarn to finish the circles, that's no problem. you can just start with another strand from where you finished it with the first yarn strands (the not enough ones). so that your yarn strands won't fall off in the process just thug them in the yarn reeled up before it. it's easy, you will get the idea once you make it.

and when you finished it should look like this.

now, this is the hardest part, but don't worry, it's easy, and practice can make wonders. take a small scissors and cut up on top a bit, so you can cut the yarn in half and so cut it off the circles.

you should place the edge of the scissors between the 2 circles and cut the yarn that way.

and now to finish it. just cut a small strand of yarn and put it between the 2 circles and then round upp the cut up yarns in a circle, then make a knot and pull tight and secure with another knot.

after you cut off the yarn that's sticking out(by cutting at the end of the circles) just pull out gently the pompom from the circles and squish it a bit to get the nice round shape. and tada! you have a pompom.
